Aptos Steps into the Crypto Smartphone Scene!

Aptos

The Aptos blockchain network is entering the increasingly crowded crypto smartphone market through a partnership with Jambo, a manufacturer of affordable devices. This collaboration brings Web3 features to the $99 JamboPhone, aiming to “unlock the digital economy for users in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.”

Launched in January, the JamboPhone already boasts pre-installed apps like the Aptos-compatible Petra wallet and a dedicated Jambo App. This app guides users through the world of Web3 with educational resources and even promises “income opportunities” via its Quests feature. While phone specifications remain unclear, the device runs Android 13 and includes a 4,900 mAh battery, a 6.5″ display, and dual SIM functionality.

Cryptophone Competition Heats Up (Aptos)

Aptos isn’t the first player in the crypto smartphone scene. Samsung integrated a crypto wallet into its flagship phones in 2019, and HTC launched its own blockchain phone later that year. However, Solana’s Saga phone truly reignited interest in “cryptophones” in 2023, with its initial batch selling out due to lucrative airdrops. While Solana announced a mid-range Chapter 2 phone for 2025, its $450 price point targets a different market compared to the $99 JamboPhone.

Aptos and Jambo’s partnership aims to bring Web3 advancements to emerging markets, ensuring “users have access regardless of their geographic or economic status.” This strategy contrasts with Solana’s approach, suggesting both players could capture distinct segments of the growing crypto phone market.
