Coinbase has launched the ‘Tech Against Scams’ coalition alongside leading tech and crypto firms such as Meta, Ripple, Kraken, Gemini, Global Anti-Scam Organization (GASO) and Match Group (parent company of Tinder and Hinge).
The aim of this coalition is to combat online fraud and financial scams by bringing together knowledge and expertise from different industries. The initiative aims to address the problem of fraud, which is prevalent across all technology platforms, by covering various technology sectors such as social media, cryptocurrency, finance and dating applications.
“We are proud to announce the Tech Against Scams coalition. Scam is an issue that concerns the entire technology industry and requires an industry-wide response. Together with industry leaders, we are committed to protecting and educating users,” Coinbase said in a statement on the X platform.
User Education and Fraud Prevention
One of the main focuses of the Tech Against Scams coalition is educating users on scam tactics and prevention strategies. Additionally, the coalition plans to share best practices and threat intelligence for the purpose of protecting consumers and disrupting the activities of online fraudsters.
FBI Report and Fraud Statistics
According to the FBI’s 2023 internet crimes report, the American public reported losses exceeding $12.5 billion due to online fraud throughout the year. $3.94 billion of these losses were due to cryptocurrency investment fraud.
This coalition aims to develop broad industry collaboration and a strong response to increasing fraudulent activity in the technology world.
