Solana (SOL) co-founder Raj Gokal has fired back at critics of meme coin culture.
In response to those who say that meme coins are “scaring away serious founders” from the cryptocurrency ecosystem, Gokal tweeted, “Can you remind me of the ‘serious founder’ who started all this?” and shared a photo of Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin with a cat backpack.
This comes after a16z crypto’s CTO recently said that meme coins are negatively affecting public, regulatory, and entrepreneurial perceptions of cryptocurrencies.
In defense of meme coin culture, Gokal said, “If you’re so fragile that you’re scared of how young people are using systems in unauthorized ways for fun, you’re not going to make it in this space.”
