Germany Continues Bitcoin Sales: How Many Bitcoin Are Left?

The German government continued its Bitcoin sales on Thursday, offloading another 2,375 BTC worth approximately $140 million. This brings the total amount of Bitcoin sold by the German government this week to over 25,000 BTC.

The Bitcoin was sent from a wallet controlled by the German government to Coinbase, Kraken, and Bitstamp exchanges, as well as a wallet believed to be linked to market maker B2C2 Group.

After these transfers, the German government still holds 13,100 Bitcoin, worth approximately $765 million. It is expected that these Bitcoin will also be sold by the end of next week.

The German government began selling Bitcoin on June 19, and has accelerated its sales this week, selling over 25,000 BTC.

Despite the large amount of Bitcoin being sold, the price of Bitcoin has not fallen significantly. Bitcoin is currently trading around $58,000, as it was earlier this morning.

In addition to the German government’s sales, Mt. Gox exchange still holds 94,000 Bitcoin that is waiting to be distributed to creditors. These BTC will also be distributed to eligible creditors over time through Bitstamp, Kraken, and BitGo.
