The viral popularity of Telegram-based click-to-earn game Hamster Kombat has become a target for crypto scammers who are taking advantage of the game’s success to organize phishing attacks and fraudulent airdrops.

Phishing Attacks Against Hamster Kombat Players

Hamster Kombat, a fast-growing mobile game on Telegram, has seen a massive increase in user numbers, reaching 239 million in just 81 days, with 4-5 million new users joining every day. This rapid growth has made it a target for cybercriminals. Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky recently uncovered a number of phishing schemes targeting gaming users.

According to Kaspersky’s security expert Olga Svistunova, scammers deceive victims with the promise of converting their in-game money into rubles by opening the users’ ID Telegram record. Svistunova explained in her statement:

“Our team is uncovering a number of fraud schemes targeting Hamster Kombat users. In one scheme, scammers trick victims with the promise that phishing links with fragmented Telegram login information will convert in-game currency into rubles.”

After obtaining identities, attackers gain access to personal accounts, allowing them to steal data, blackmail and send fake messages. While this scheme primarily targets victims in Russia, Svistunova also warned that various other scammers may adopt similar tactics.

Fake Hamster Kombat Crypto Airdrops

In addition to phishing attacks, scammers are also targeting Hamster Kombat players with fake cryptocurrency airdrops. These fraudulent airdrops are designed to steal users’ cryptocurrency identities.

Svistunova highlighted how scammers are taking advantage of the appeal of free cryptocurrency by offering fake Hamster cryptocurrency airdrops aimed at stealing cryptocurrencies. Scammers also set up phishing sites that claim to sell Hamster cryptocurrency for rewards, thus tricking them into gaining access to cryptocurrencies.
