The Solana phone, once heavily marketed for sale, now gains unexpected popularity due to the BONK memecoin. Arbitrage traders skyrocketed phone sales with the announcement of a 30 million BONK token airdrop for Saga phone owners. As a result, the coin’s distributed value rose to 700 dollars, up from the phone’s current price of 599 dollars.
Co-founder of Solana, Raj Gokal, shared on Twitter that “Saga sales have increased tenfold in the last 48 hours and seem to be running out before the new year even begins”. Gokal’s encouraged partner, Anatoly Yakovenko, argued that the price of the phone should be increased.
The interest in Solana’s BONK token, similar to Dogecoin, caused a rapid recovery for Saga, which was seeing low sales figures just a week ago. Saga is a blockchain-based smartphone, offering the necessary features for users to securely store their crypto assets on the phone’s own hardware.
The airdrop announcement had an effect on the traders who wanted to buy the phone, causing them to flock to Saga’s Discord channel. According to the shares, those who want to participate in the BONK airdrop must download the BONK app from Saga’s special application store.
A user, claiming to be an employee of Solana Mobile, gave information saying, “When the phone reaches you, you will be able to ‘mint’ the ‘Genesis token’ through the ‘dApp store’. With this token, you can request to participate in the memecoin airdrop.”
